Edwards Lifesciences Corp
Edwards Lifesciences Corp is a medical device company that develops, manufactures, and markets products to treat structural heart disease as well as critical care and vascular conditions. They are based in Irvine, California and have numerous other global locations. Edwards Lifesciences was established by Dr. Miles C. Edwards in the 1958 when he developed a deep-sea diving suit to help divers reach greater depths safely with minimal risk of decompression sickness or ‘the bends’. Soon after his invention he received FDA approval for use of the suit in commercial operations which started the ball rolling for him breaking into the medical device market with heart valves before eventually entering cardiac surgery fields such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) technology and therapeutic catheters designed to open blocked arteries from within without serious invasive surgeries. The company is now a leader in cutting-edge research and development towards solving cardiovascular diseases and providing minimally invasive options for treatment that improve patient outcomes while reducing overall costs related to care.
