Choctaw Nation Of Oklahoma
The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is one of the largest Native American Tribes from the southeastern U.S. It was formed around 1830 and is now located in southeastern Oklahoma. Originally called the Choctaw Nation, its members are descendants of the indigenous people who lived in what is now Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. Today, it serves approximately 200,000 tribal members with numerous programs and services including health care, education systems (including college scholarships), housing assistance, social services for veterans and seniors as well as a variety of cultural and recreational opportunities. The nation also owns many businesses that generate jobs for its citizens while providing needed services to its community. The Choctaw government has created long-term economic goals to ensure continued stability for current members as well as future generations. Furthermore, it works actively to preserve traditional languages, customs and values among its people while engaging in activities that promote social growth both within their own communities as well as internationally.
