Children's Hospital Los Angeles
Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a research and teaching hospital established in 1901. The hospital was founded by members of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, who opened it as a 12-bed facility named Angel's Asylum. A decade later, the name was changed to Children's Hospital and has remained as such ever since. CHLA currently provides comprehensive pediatric healthcare services to more than 107,000 children each year from all over California and beyond. CHLA’s mission is to lead in providing top-tier medical care for children, advance scientific knowledge through research initiatives, educate future medical professionals in child health care protocols, and champion patient rights and well-being within communities across the nation. Today CHLA has approximately 430 licensed beds spread amongst seven buildings on its main campus near downtown Los Angeles plus additional facilities located throughout Southern California.
