Centra Health, Inc. is a nonprofit integrated health care system based in Lynchburg, Virginia. Established in 1987, it provides a range of services through its hospital, community health centers and primary care offices throughout the region. Centra began when four area hospitals - Lynchburg General Hospital, Bedford Memorial Hospital, Campbell County Medical Center and Amherst Regional Hospital- merged to form one organization. It has since grown to include more than 300 physicians across over 80 practices, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. The core mission of Centra Health is to “provide comprehensive health care services that meet the needs of Central Virginia by operating with excellence” and the organizations seeks to provide quality medical care for anyone regardless of their ability to pay or other circumstance.
