CenterPoint Energy is a publicly traded energy and pipeline company based in Houston, Texas. Founded as Houston Lighting & Power Company in 1882, they have a long history of delivering electricity to the greater Houston area including Harris County and some surrounding counties. Today, CenterPoint provides electric service to nearly 2 million customers. With just over 20 percent of all electric load statewide under its jurisdiction, it is one of the largest electricity delivery systems in Texas. The company also serves natural gas distribution services to more than 5 million residential and business customers throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas through their subsidiaries BPU Investment Management Inc., DQE Inc., ENSTAR Natural Gas Company Inc., Intech Utility Services LLC and Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co.. In addition to these services Centerpoint also owns two interstate natural gas pipelines with a combined transportation capacity exceeding 10 billion cubic feet per day. These pipelines move natural from various points in the U.S Rocky Mountains region down into Gulf Coast markets like New Orleans or Corpus Christi and on out into Central America up through Mexico City
