CBS Radio Inc. is an American radio broadcasting company with roots going back to the 1920s. It is a direct subsidiary of CBS Corporation, and its headquarters are located in New York City. Currently, it operates 117 radio stations across 26 markets in the United States which includes major cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston. Its programming consists of talk radio, sports talk, music and entertainment programming as well as news broadcasts from national networks such as National Public Radio and Bloomberg News. The company traces its history back to 1926 when it was known at Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System (CPBS) founded by William S Paley which then became CBS Inc when it merged with United Independent Broadcasters Inc in 1928. By 1939, CBS had established itself as one of America's first true radio networks through acquisitions and mergers of small regional broadcasters around the country. In 1997, Infinity Broadcasting corporation was acquired by CBS to become known later as CBS Radio Inc and since then has grown to consist of more than 100 local radio station affiliates in the United States until today where it also features streaming internet radios on its websites for digital audiences worldwide.
