Benihana National Corp. is a publicly traded company based in Aventura, Florida. Founded in 1964 by Hiroaki “Rocky” Aoki, the Japanese-American entrepreneur and former professional wrestler, Benihana has grown to be one of the largest restaurant chains in the world specializing in teppanyaki-style cuisine. The first Benihana opened as a small hamburger stand on West 56th Street in New York City with only eight tables and was appropriately called “Benihana of Tokyo”. In its early years before becoming a publicly traded company, Benihana had established itself as an iconic symbol of Japanese culture and culinary artistry throughout the US during the 1970s with locations across major cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago. As of 2021, there are over 100 locations around the world including Europe, Latin America and Japan with over 20 restaurants across the United States alone.
