Established in 1931 by Donald Baxter, this company began as a small pharmacy on Chicago’s west side. In the later 1940s and early 1950s, Baxter produced penicillin kits which helped revolutionize antibiotic treatment during World War II and subsequently led to their development of the first successful IV (intravenous) solution systems in 1955.
