Aol Inc
Aol Inc. is a major internet brand and division of the Verizon Communications Corporation. It was founded in 1983 as Quantum Computer Services by Steve Case, Jim Kimsey and Marc Seriff. The company provided services such as online gaming, Q-Link, e-mail service, bulletin boards and shopping through its proprietary dial-up network. In 1989 it changed its name to America Online and launched the Interactive Services which allowed public access to many of the same features provided through their membership services. In 1996 they partnered with Compuserve allowing them to offshoot into providing internet service infrastructure such as hosting email servers, software downloads and high speed connections. Through various acquisitions over the years including MapQuest (2000) AIM (2001), Netscape Communications Corporation (1998)and Bebo (2008), AOL diversified their portfolio offering content aggregation offerings, software applications, media centered utilities like You've Got Pictures feature, interactive communications tools such as instant messenger applications and social networking platforms.
