Amedisys Holding
Amedisys Holding is one of the largest home health and hospice providers in the United States, providing services to patients and their families through a network of 33,000 skilled nursing workers, therapists, social workers and aides. Founded in 1982 as American Medical Enterprises (AME) by William F. Borne and Michael A. Landry, the company quickly grew from its original three locations in Louisiana to more than 350 offices across 34 states by 1987. In 1993, the company changed its name to Amedisys Inc., trading under the NASDAQ ticker symbol AMED until it filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in 2002 due to accounting issues. By 2003 the company had reorganized using a new business strategy focused on providing patient services consistently throughout each community they serve and has since expanded significantly into additional services such as transitional care programs and palliative care options.
